What this check looks at
“Shows your verified logo next to your mail in supporting inboxes. Requires DMARC enforcement first.” - the wording shown beside this check while it runs.
BIMI - Brand Indicators for Message Identification - is a DNS record pointing at your logo. Mailbox providers that support it show that logo beside your messages, which makes a genuine message visibly different from a forged one at a glance.
It is deliberately last in line. BIMI is only honoured for domains that already enforce DMARC, and most large mailbox providers additionally require a certificate proving you own the mark as a trademark. It is the reward for finishing, not a shortcut to looking legitimate.
Why it matters
The upside is real but cosmetic-adjacent: recognition, and a visible difference between your mail and an impersonation. The reason it is worth knowing about is the ordering - if BIMI is something you want, it tells you the DMARC work below is a prerequisite rather than optional.
What each verdict means here
- Pass
- A BIMI record is published.
- Warn
- A record is present but incomplete or malformed.
- Not applicable
- No BIMI record. For the overwhelming majority of domains this is the correct state and it is not counted against the score.
What to do
- Get DMARC to quarantine or reject first. Nothing else here matters until that is true.
- Check what your mailbox providers require - most want a Verified Mark Certificate, which is a paid, identity-verified certificate and not a quick step.
- Only then publish the BIMI record pointing at your logo.
What this check does not do
We check whether the record exists and parses. We do not fetch your logo, validate the image, or verify any certificate.
